About the book

Have you ever felt obsessed?

As a young man in his early twenties, I felt lost -- with school, with relationships, with everything. At this critical moment in my life, I discovered chess, and soon I had set out on a quest to become a  grandmaster.

Follow along as I journey from being a chess newcomer to a competitive tournament player. Meet the colorful characters that make up the chess community, a group of people with a shared passion for an intellectual pursuit that transcends age.

Join me as I battle and match wits against some of the best players in the world. Could I reach the pinnacle of the game and become a chess grandmaster?

The pursuit of excellence has a price, though -- and the closer I got to my goal, the more I started to blur the lines between disciplined practice and a darker obsession with the game.

What does it truly take to become a chess grandmaster -- and what cost was I willing to pay?
